Microsoft decides to open source .NET. .Net is one of the reputed
software framework companies that runs on Windows and release it on
GitHub. Additionally, Microsoft is also targeting Mac OS X and Linux
by taking it to .NET cross-platform. If we have looking at the next
release, we come to know that Microsoft decides to open source entire
.NET server stack, from ASP.NET 5 to the Base Class Libraries and the
Common Language Runtime.
The company enables .Net
developers to develop cloud application on different platforms. It is
considered as the promising future support of the .NET Core server
runtime and framework for Linux and Mac. The Corporate Vice President
of the Developer Division at Microsoft, S. Somasegar explained that
open sourcing .NET will help to “get more developers onto the
platform” as well as “let existing .NET developers target more
users.” It is considered to be a long term bet. Moreover, he also
hinted that taking .NET cross-platform would help the company with
extra platform and tools vendors for many industries and thus, it
results in to the growth in .NET ecosystem.
Microsoft is being
supported and implemented by the move however, the company had help.
Developers can see the latest .NET version as open source in close
collaboration with the Mono project and community. Mono is an open
source implementation of Microsoft’s .NET Framework for context.
The main aim of Microsoft will be part of
the .NET Foundation”
will be provided by the implementation, said Microsoft.
Those people, who have
been reading in surprise now, can find point where a lightbulb should
go on above your head. It was open sourcing 24 of its .NET libraries
and related technologies, announced by Microsoft at its Build
conference in April. That is when it created the .NET Foundation,
which is a group for managing its open source .NET components.
Following Java
We all know that .NET is
one of the primary competitors to JAVA among developers and
businesses building websites and other large online services. Most of
the companies, who are relying on Microsoft software, are using it.
It is researched that more than 1.8 billion times, .NET was installed
over that last but Java is still more popular tool and many users
consider it more powerful.
