Somasegar explained that open sourcing .NET will help to “get more developers onto the platform” as well as “let existing .NET developers target more users.” It is considered to be a long term bet. Moreover, he also hinted that taking .NET cross-platform would help the company with extra platform and tools vendors for many industries and thus, it results in to the growth in .NET ecosystem.

We all know that .NET is one of the primary competitors to JAVA among developers and businesses building websites and other large online services. Most of the companies, who are relying on Microsoft software, are using it.
